Evony parody TV advertisement

Another great video. Like the previous one it is posted on YouTube by someone calling themselves EvonyFraud. But this time they have produced a funny parody TV advert.

Once again there is no copyright so you are free to do what you will with it.

Another interesting video can be found here. This Australian YouTuber goes under the name of GrahamAndFriends. He questions as to why YouTube permitted Evony ads that contained cleavage when those who offer YouTube videos are not permitted to do this. He introduces his video with the following statement:

“There is alot of cleavage in the adverts on youtube, especially for the evony free online games.”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqycQnTiW3M

Despite the wit, I believe that Graham is making a very interesting observation here, because in reality these Evony ads that have been made through Google have offended millions of internet users. In contrast those that it have not offended are offended by the anti cleavage policies of third party bodies that have in turn permitted these Evony ads onto their own websites (As is the case with YouTube – hense the point made by Graham).

Let us not forget that the success of Evony is due to the way Google permits its advertisers to behave. It is not because Evony developed a clever (or should I say cleavage) marketing ad. Therefore I believe Google have seriously underestimated the negative impact Evony will have on them. This is because they failed to intervene on behalf of the consumer. When Bruce Everiss’ case receives widespread international media coverage, and it will, the real question on people’s minds will be why did Google permit this to happen? If Google is going to promote proxy companies, especially those that are connected to click-fraud, then people will simply stop using Google products. Indeed I am already in this transition.

There are many ways for capable creative blog users to create revenue. I particularly like the approach taken by John Gruber with Daring Fireball http://daringfireball.net/. As you can see he runs his own advertising and is doing very well out of it. All people with industry standard blogs should consider this type of approach, because Google ads are being compromised with impunity. The mark of a respectable industry standard blog is measured by the way the industry is prepared to back it. This means that industry standard games blogs need to rethink their strategy. Regardless of what currently exists, protecting consumer interests should be their priority. In this respect I think many people in the games industry have much to learn from independent thinkers like Bruce Everiss.
