I can’t believe I signed up for Facebook. I was one of the last hold-outs. >.<
Anyway showing my support yet again.
Hey Bruce,
I read with amusement your posts on Evony. Their behavior (gold-farming, spamming) didn’t necessarily spark my lasting interest…I read, chuckled, forgot.
But when Evony threatened and then sued you for what struck me as fair-play comments (even if I really didn’t care), THAT makes a lasting negative impression.
Evony will hurt their reputation with otherwise disinterested geeks by strong-arming you. They should have chosen instead to ignore or even creatively play off of criticisms such as yours.
I will DEFINITELY support your legal-defense fund. Carry on!
Vince
Oh well, guess you didn’t like my other comment. Anyways though, I still wish you the best when it comes to you vs. Evony. Seems Evony don’t like my site either, they just told me to get rid of any link to it in their forums.
Am currently playing evony (quitting soon) and have become extremely concerned at the game model dynamics and marketing.
Whilst the game principle is addictive and encourages success during a players city development it bites back in real life by the con of cash payments to attain full status. Now for working adults this is clearly a choice of whether to purchase game value products and the ability to commit to continual transactions is based on the individuals ability to pay. Though for children embarking in the game it discourages value determination of money itself. The payment is seen as a condition of play excluding any fiscal responsibility.
The ultimate precept here is the more money you spend the greater are your chances of winning. By analogy this type of game payment method will generate more despotic game gamblers than Las Vegas produces chronic gamblers.
Returning to your issue of “data mining”, I have also experienced intrusions on my PC from evony which I am soon to clear up. I support your comments though currently unable to financially assist your defense.
The games industry must be able to finance their operations, we can all agree, however the assault on global youth by the dynamics is bad enough but the farming of data for profit is clearly an unregulated crime. The problem requires definitive international laws though little exists that can ensure safe game access compliance. These abuses are escalating across many game environments and evony is just one of many now available labeled as free. More protection for the user is required.
If I can help in any way do not hesitate to contact me
