Hi Bruce,
Just curious - Would you buy the same device today? / Can you recommend your "wish list" netbook right now?

Yes, did a T mobile deal with Carphone Warehouse £210 for 18 months "Unlimited" use (throttled after 3Gb in one month). Dongle included in the price. Very east to install, just plug and play.

Good buy. Did you get your 3G dongle? I use a T-Mobile pay-as-you-go device with my MacBook. It costs £2 a day (midnight to midnight), but you can also opt to pay £10 for 7 days or £20 for 30 days if you're likely to be using it continually for a while. For me at least, this will prove much cheaper than a contract.

The only downside to my T-Mobile dongle (which I believe they all share) is that images are compressed and look pretty bad in your browser. This isn't much of a hassle, though, and is worth the sacrifice for the increased speed.

Good idea, I have also decided to go for a netbook, although it's the Asus eee pc instead, should make doing essays on the train so much easier.

Thanks for the tip Drealmer. My Logitech cordless optical mouse arrived this morning and it has transformed using the Aspire One. I can see myself using it even more often now.

Nice purchase Bruce, I got the exact same one a few months ago and the little thing replaced my other computer for everything Internet-related. And let me share a little tip: for when I am at home or at the office, as the Acer is sitting on my desk next to my main computer, I found it convenient to install Synergy. It connects automatically, and allows me to share the mouse and keyboard between the two computers. Best of both worlds :)
