I hear what you both say.
The thing that mobile phones have going for them is the sheer numbers. Over 1,000 million a year. You only need a very small percentage of users to play games on them and you have a massive market.

The problem with cell phones, for me, is that it's not meant to be a gaming platform. The controlling/input of a cellphone keyboard is just odd and response times are terrible.

However, that's not the case with smartphones, palms and every device with a touchscreen technology. Those ones can turn out to be almost as good as iPhone.

You're right: there are a ton of cell phones out there, but think about the Wii for a moment. Right now it's enjoying some insane hardware sales but is suffering from relatively low software sales. Why is that? Well, the majority of people who are buying Wiis aren't really gamers. They like Wii Sports enough to want a Wii and the first-party games always do pretty well, but that's about where it ends. I think it'll be, pretty much, the same with cell phones. Most of the people buying a cell phone are people who aren't gamers and really just need a cell phone. They spring the extra for the camera and mp3 player because those features are nice to have, but mostly, they just really need a phone. Maybe you just run in entirely different circles than I do, but most of my friends who are also hardcore gamers don't tend to play games on their phones. That includes me.

Again, though, maybe you're right. Maybe this new iteration of the nGage will crack the market wide open. At the very least, I don't think I can be blamed for being skeptical. Right now, I just want to see the games.
