Online games have been expanding like nothing on the Internet.
Many new online gaming sites have come up.
Even I'm a big sucker of online games. They are susually easy on systems, have a light theme and can be interesting without getting addictive.

Some of the latest that I came across are from Zapak.com.. Zapak is has now launched games even for the mobile platform. Given the mobile phones penetration, this is a huge add-on. Now we can easily play games while commuting etc.. Just loved the way they have structured the games in this category.

I've been online gaming for approximately 7 years and more appropriately, running an online gaming community for close to five years and as far as I'm concerned kids are safe playing online games. In my experience, the majority of gaming related websites and game server administrators are clued up regarding the sensitivities of online gaming such as swearing on game servers to "inappropriate discussions" on game servers or forum boards.

The biggest problems we have had over the years are mainly contained within the community forums. Forum moderation in general is relatively easy with most flame related subjects consisting of "who's a better gamer" or "who's cheated (downloaded a hack)" etc. Sex and violence are obviously a no no within the forums themselves and everybody abides by this rule. Let's face it, they can find material regarding sex and violence ANYWHERE else on the internet or TV so why promote or present it on a gaming related website, it's pointless and it'll earn you a ban from the website.

The most dangerous aspect of online gaming, both on game servers and community forum boards, are discussions regarding politics, Afghanistan, Muslims etc. All ironically linked to government activities, and of course the same government who seem to think the gaming industry is the cause of crime etc.

Personally, I think kids are perfectly safe playing online games as long as their parents dont buy them games that are a) unsuitable for their age group and b) dont discuss personal details etc.
